Frequently Asked Questions

What is SketchUp used for?

SketchUp is a 3D modelling program widely used for architecture, interior design, landscape design, product design and visualisation. It allows you to quickly develop 3D models, explore design ideas, apply materials and create presentations. SketchUp can also be used alongside LayOut and rendering software such as V-Ray for professional design workflows.

Is SketchUp easy to learn for beginners?

Yes. SketchUp is designed around an accessible 3D modelling workflow and is suitable for complete beginners. Our beginner training starts with navigation and essential modelling tools before progressing to groups, components, materials and more detailed 3D models. No previous SketchUp experience is required.

How long does it take to learn SketchUp?

For complete beginners, our introductory SketchUp courses can start from around 6–10 hours, while our Beginner to Advanced course is 16 hours. The amount of training you need depends on your existing experience and whether you want to learn additional workflows such as LayOut or V-Ray rendering.

Do I need any CAD or 3D modelling experience?

No. You can learn SketchUp without previous CAD or 3D modelling experience. Our training can start from the fundamentals and progress at a pace suited to your existing knowledge. Experience with AutoCAD or other design software can be useful, but it is not required.

Can I learn SketchUp in person in London?

Yes. We provide in-person SketchUp training at our Kennington, London training centre. For 1-to-1 courses, you can arrange sessions around your schedule, with training available Monday to Saturday between 9am and 7pm.

Is SketchUp training available online?

Yes. Our SketchUp courses are also available as live online training. You work directly with your tutor during the session rather than following pre-recorded lessons, allowing you to ask questions, receive demonstrations and get help with your models as you learn.
